| InsideArt presents the work of inmates who are building
their own way to self-sufficiency. This is only possible
with the public’s understanding that incarceration
is seldom forever. |
| Most inmates will eventually be released to the community.
The need for effective and meaningful reintegration
of inmates into the world, equipped with the skills
to legitimately and independently make their own way
with minimal reliance on the social safety net, and
a healthy sense of self-worth, means increased safety
in the community. And lower social and economic costs
for everyone. |
| InsideArt is an artisans’ cooperative: a forum
of introduction to your future neighbours. The co-op
members are working hard to give back to the community
and create an honest path for themselves through their
work. |
| The benefits of the InsideArt project are many: |
- inmates can use the time that they have in prison
productively, working on a business plan, building
skills, building business contacts, and beginning
to do business while in prison.
- inmates can better support their families on the
street while in prison.
- inmates will be paying income tax, and a larger
portion of their upkeep because of InsideArt (plus
they will no longer rely on inmate pay which is
funded by taxpayers).
- inmates will have a legitimate means of financial
self-sufficiency upon release.
